Euro-CAT-CSCL

Awareness collaboration tool for CSCL users (Euro-ACT-CSCL) is a FP7 People Industry Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP) research project. It aims to advance research knowledge in Computer Supported Collaborative Work and Learning (CSCL) and create interoperable computer tools to add to groupware systems and main Learning Management Systems (LMS) in order to enhance the effectiveness in computer distance work/learning context.

The project involves Ouak.net French SME, Université de Toulouse CNRS UMR-5263, Centre for Interactive Systems Engineering (CISE) at London South Bank University; Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and Universitat Ramon Llull (Barcelona).

EuroCAT Dundee Workshop Evaluation

http://ouak.net/eurocat/

Dear Participant,

Your contribution to EuroCAT evaluation is more than valuable. This is the very first test for EuroCAT’s final release. This research is funded by Euro-CAT-CSCL, an FP7 Marie Curie IAPP research project aiming to develop a Collaboration Awareness Tool (CAT) in Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL). Euro-CAT-CSCL consortium is composed by Ouak.net (France), London South Bank University (UK), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), Universitat Ramon Llull (Spain) and Université de Toulouse (France) (http://www.cat-cscl.eu).

DATA PROTECTION: The information you will provide is strictly confidential and shall be processed only and to the extent required for the specific research purposes. By giving us information about yourself, you expressly consent to us using that information where necessary for the above purposes. Your personal information will be replaced with codes, and faces/avatars will be replaced with smileys. All personal data will be stored in a safe location within LSBU. You have the right to ask for the correction of any inaccuracy or the writing off of your personal information or for a copy of the information we hold on you.

You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without providing any additional justification for your decision.

EuroCAT Dundee Workshop Activity:

Create a vision statement for a new budget airline

In this investigation you will role play as a member of a distributed working group. The task for the group is to create a name and a one paragraph vision statement for a new budget airline and is intended to be completed during a single week. Before you start the task you need to complete a Simulation Card, an example is given below. You need to fill in your name, but leave the role blank until the team starts work. You also need to choose a time zone, indicate any appointments that you have in the week of the project and also indicate any other constraints on your time.

You will first use the EuroCAT tool to indicate your availability and then decide upon times when the group can work synchronously together. You will then pretend to be working synchronously on-line on the task. You should first (quickly) decide upon roles, then the name of the airline and then the vision statement.

Steps

  1. Create your profile on EuroCAT: http://ouak.net/eurocat/
  2. Indicate your availabilities.
  3. Choose a time when you can all work synchronously, or review availabilities and re-choose.
  4. Decide upon the roles within the group (quickly).
  5. Create the name of the airline.
  6. Create the vision statement.
Examples of Working on topics
  1. Offer role: I want to be a team leader
  2. Confirm role: Ok, you can be the team leader
  3. Withdraw role: Ok, I will not be the team leader
  4. Explain role: I should be the team leader because….
  5. Suggest airline name: Let’s call it Sleazy Jet!
  6. Critique airline name: That’s not a good name to sell..
  7. Agree airline name: Ok, let’s call it E-CAT Jet!
  8. Suggest vision phrase: We should say ‘The highest safety and satisfaction standards’
  9. Critique vision phrase: Why not say safety, service and satisfaction?
  10. Agree vision phrase: Ok, it’s just service and satisfaction.

Thank you very much indeed for your participation.
